Malala Yousafzai is a 15-year-old girl living in the Northwest Province of Pakistan. She became an advocate for the education of girls. When UNICEF sponsored a local children’s assembly Malala was elected its president. On October 9, 2012, the Taliban attempted to assassinate her as she rode home on a school bus shooting her twice, once in the head. She was flown to Britain for medical treatment and as of date hopes are high for her recovery.
Gordon Brown, former Prime Minister of Great Britain, has initiated a worldwide petition calling on all nations to provide an education for children and especially focusing on Pakistan demanding that it provide education for girls.
