THOMAS PETERFFY is an interesting fellow. He’s become known to the broader public during this election year because he has personally funded what at first blush appears to be a campaign ad but which upon analysis must be seen as public service announcements. Peterffy is a BILLIONAIRE but from the available evidence appears to be someone who actually worked for what he has. Unlike those who inherit their money or fix their deals with government connections, Thomas Peterffy came to this country from Soviet-occupied Hungary and through diligence and hard work amassed a personal fortune without injuring anyone else.
The Peterffy ads don’t endorse candidates but express a concern that America avoid Socialism. The core message is this,
“America’s wealth comes from the efforts of people striving for success. Take away their incentive with badmouthing success and you take away the wealth that helps us take care of the needy. Yes, in socialism the rich will be poorer — but the poor will also be poorer. People will lose interest in really working hard and creating jobs.”
We don’t think he has much cause for worry. Americans are among the hardest working people in the world with consistently improving productivity gains. We also, more than any other country, have a commitment to free enterprise that borders on the obsessive-compulsive. Nevertheless, we are getting poorer while a very small clique become richer. We are not becoming poorer because of a creeping Socialism but because of an overwhelming all-encompassing perfidious adoration of Greed. And, unlike Mr Peterffy, the malefactors of this Greed are not hard-working moral individuals such as he, but are predators who destroy industries for personal gain, betray their country to foreign interests and who buy favors from well-placed pols.
Thomas Peterffy escaped from a society he identifies as “Socialist” but which is better understood as a Soviet-occupied colony. The Hungarian economy he fled was very much like the economy we are developing in America. Not Socialist, not Free Enterprise but “Fixed”. The fixers and the wheeler-dealers thread advertising/PR manipulation with lobbying and campaign funding to game the system. Labor is exploited, consumers are deceived and shareholders are scammed and all bent to serve the interests of a very small clique of Robber Barons and Money Lords.
We are not in danger of Socialism, neither are we engaged in Free Enterprise, we are instead witnessing a great transformation of the world-economy away from the models of the last three centuries and into a newer, yet more ancient, model of Corporate Feudalism and Industrial Slavery.
Look at the penultimate economy in the 21st century, it isn’t America, and it isn’t Socialist, it is China. A China of slave labor camps disguised as factories. A China where the Commissars of yesteryear are quickly becoming BILLIONAIRES. A China wherein the slave labor camp superintendent dines with the American businessman and plots joint ventures.
