Buy Nothing Day

Frazzled by the orgy of shopping induced by Black Friday? Forget about it. Do something different after the annual celebratory feast, buy nothing. Yes, the Friday after Thanksgiving is also known as BUY NOTHING DAY. The following description is republished from Wikipedia —

An international day of protest against consumerism observed by social activists and many concerned citizens, Buy Nothing Day is held the Friday after American Thanksgiving Day

The first Buy Nothing Day was organized in Mexico in September 1992 “as a day for society to examine the issue of over-consumption.” In 1997, it was moved to the Friday after American Thanksgiving, which is one of the ten busiest shopping days in the U.S.. In 2000, advertisements by Adbusters promoting Buy Nothing Day were denied advertising time by almost all major television networks except for CNN.

Since when could you do something by DOING NOTHING. Take advantage of it, you can do nothing, save money and impress your friends and family (as well as “guilt” them) with your moral purity by buying nothing.
