JOHN EDWARDS, a progressive Democrat who ran against Barack Obama for the Democratic endorsement in 2008 and the Democratic candidate for the Vice Presidency in 2004, is currently on trial for using campaign contributions for personal use. If he did this, it was wrong and it is against the law but it is such a common practice that one wonders why Edwards is being prosecuted while every other politician seems to skate. SARAH PALIN used campaign contributions to buy new clothes for her kids, CHRISTINE O’DONNELL (the Republican witch in Delaware) used campaign funds to pay her mortgage, and NEWT GINGRICH practically lives on his campaign contributions. No one prosecuted these folks.
Remember back in 2008, Edwards was the only person in politics saying that Obama wasn’t a liberal or progressive. There was a complicit understanding there between the Democratic establishment and the media that the campaign was between Obama and Hilary Clinton, John Edwards was an inconvenient truth challenging the established myth.
As an Edwards supporter in 2004 and 2008, I abhor his personal conduct, and could never support his return to politics but this prosecution has all the appearance of a persecution.
